Breaking into modeling

If you are ready to start doing some modeling, how do you break into the industry? Well, that is a good question, but there are answers out there. The first thing you need is a good portfolio of work that you have done. Try to find some local photographers in the area who are looking for models. This type of work does not usually pay, but you can get prints of the photos so that you have the start of a portfolio. This is worth more than money to you right now anyway, so make the good deals with the good photographers whenever you can. Model for everything, and keep the best work from every project to show other potential clients.

Once you have a sizeable portfolio and some practical experience under your belt, try applying for jobs with companies like JC Penny, Sears, or other companies that require models. There is no shortage of companies who need models, but the important thing is that you try to get the jobs! Send them your portfolio, fill out applications, call back and check up on your app status - do everything you can to get the job. Modeling is a very competitive business, and only the smartest and most aggressive people will succeed at it.

So, be aggressive! Make them realize that you are willing to work harder then anyone else. With this kind of attitude, a good portfolio, and some natural talent, you can go very far in modeling.

Just remember - the key to anything is perseverance. If you don’t give up, then you are 100% more likely to succeed than if you give up. As long as you keep trying, you will have a chance to be the model that you have always dreamed of being.
